Westlake Laboratory of Life Sciences and Biomedicine (WLLSB) was inaugurated in July 2020. It is one of the first research laboratories funded by the Zhejiang Provincial Government. Led by Westlake University, WLLSB actively promotes the construction of an innovative scientific research hub, and uses cutting-edge research approaches in life sciences and biomedicine to explore the most prominent and challenging research area, namely aging and aging-related diseases, including cancer. WLLSB consists of four research centers: Center for Basic Research, Center for Biotechnology, Center for Translational Research and Center for Clinical Research. Through interdisciplinary research and interconnected innovation, the laboratory integrates basic research, translational research, key technology development, clinical diagnosis, and treatment, as well as technology transfer. The laboratory develops a strategy emphasizing disease orientation, basic research, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Established in 2018, Westlake University is a new type of research university, a first in the history of modern China, and is committed to building an international, world leading, research-focused university.

By building world-class research programs and centers, the School of Life Sciences at Westlake University strives to pursue questions fundamental to our understanding of biology and disease, and to develop enabling technologies that advance human health and civilization.

A weekly, international journal, publishing papers from any area of science with great potential impact and whose importance extends well beyond the confines of the specific discipline concerned. Nature has the highest impact factor of any journal publishing basic scientific research. Nature also publishes Reviews, as well as a broad range of informal material in the form of Editorials, News and News Features, Correspondence, Opinion, News and Views, Books and Arts, Futures (the award-winning science-fiction series) and NatureJobs (articles on careers and recruitment). The journal also publishes regular supplements, including Insights, Outlooks and Technology Features. Nature publishes much online-only information, including the award-winning daily Nature News, blogs, regular web focuses (collections of topical material, often from the journal’s archive) and other web-only special features.

Nature Aging is a new online-only research journal publishing monthly from January 2021. Nature Aging’s mission is to provide a unique multidisciplinary, unifying and highly visible publishing platform for the aging-research community. The journal is highly selective yet broad in its coverage, publishing research from across the entire spectrum of the field, ranging from the basic biology of aging to the impact of aging on society. The journal aims to foster interactions among different areas of this diverse field of research and to promote new and exciting ideas within and beyond the research community, to enable synergy and maximize scientific and societal impact.

Nature Cell Biology publishes peer-reviewed original research of the highest quality in all areas of cell biology with an emphasis on studies that provide insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying cellular processes. The journal’s scope is broad and ranges from cytoskeletal dynamics, membrane transport, adhesion and migration, cell division, signalling pathways, development and stem cells, to molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying cancer. Nature Cell Biology provides timely and informative coverage of cell biological advances.

Nature Communications is an open access journal that publishes high-quality research from all areas of the natural sciences. Papers published by the journal represent important advances of significance to specialists within each field.
